Uganda at 56: Museveni assures on security, as FDC Holds lecture on Independence


President Museveni has used the 56th Independence celebrations to assure the Country that the government is committed to improving security in the country.

 A number of high profile persons including former police spokesperson, Felix Kaweesi, former Buyende district Police Commander, Muhammad Kirumira among others have been gunned down in city murders.

The murders according to the president, are being carried out by Allied Democratic forces rebels who have penetrated into the city.

   Speaking at Kasasa grounds in Kyotera district, the president said the CCTV cameras which he launched today, will help Prevent crime in the city.

     Meanwhile, At the FDC party headquarters, party members held a lecture about Independence Day expressing concern over expenses spent on national celebrations as many Ugandans languish in extreme poverty.

Meanwhile, in other news, The National Resistance Movement  has attributed the victory of its candidate in the Sheema North by-election to vigilance against plans by the opposition to rig

The NRM flag bearer Naomi Kibaaju beat FDC flag bearer Guma Nuwagaba by 11,326 votes to 7,322 votes respectively.

The spokesman at the NRM secretariat Rogers Mulindwa said that the opposition has been found of rigging by-elections by allegedly ferrying voters to the areas where the polls are to be held.

He adds that this trick was defeated in Sheema North and that in future, the NRM party will not allow the opposition to win  

But the FDC party has contested the outcomes of this by-election with the party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi saying the party will review the outcomes and chart a way forward

He singled out the challenges and said it was important to address them to make elections better.
