Security dominates Campaigns for LCI Elections


As campaigns for the LCI elections slated for Tuesday next week kicked off today, many chairperson aspirants have sounded a promise to address the issue of insecurity in the villages if voted.

Since 2001, Uganda has not had a functional Local council system, which has seen an increase in the crime rate in the communities.

    Now speaking to some aspirants here in Mbarara, they pledge to address insecurity and others issues affecting their villages.

    Muhammad Kayira, the incumbent chairman and contestant for  Lower cell, Nyamityobora division in Mbarara municipality says he will work with police and other authorities to fight crime.

Meanwhile, Mucunguzi Greenford Kapota who is running as chairman LCI  Kakiika, Mbarara municipality promises to fight insecurity, garbaggeproblem among other issues.

The campaigns will stop on July 9, 2018. Jotham Taremwa, the Electoral Commission spokesperson could not establish the number of candidates that had contested from all the
villages around the country by press time.

Aoron Tibamanya, the incumbent NRM candidate Katungu cell Ishaka Division Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality says he is ready for the race because he has been LC1 for long time so he has the experience adding that he knows hecan make the best chairman.

On the issue of voting by lining-up, Tibamanya says it will build trust among residents and their elected leaders.

Ronald Baryaiza who is also the incumbent NRM candidate for Gomborora cell Ishaka Division Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality says he has started his campaigns and he is visiting everyone because he knows all of them by name and face because he has been in power for over 17 years.

He says is sure of wining this election because of good things he did for the people citing lobbying for road construction and reporting their problems.

Meanwhile, The NRM chairman of Kamwenge district who is also the Member of parliament for Kibale East in Kamwenge district Minister Frank Tumwebaze has today commissioned the NRM LCI flag bearers in the constituency.

The commissioning was successful in the National Resistance Movement – NRM constituency conference for Kibale East-Kamwenge district .

“We commissioned our LC1 flag bearers &discussed modalities to win the coming LC1 elections” Tumwebaze said

 He said that the RC/LC system as conceived by the NRA in its early years of the struggle is the first layer of foundation security.

 “We therefore attach great importance to this first step and foundation of democratic governance” He narrated

He added that they are optimistic that National Resistance Movement – NRM will win over 85% of all the villages in Uganda.

 He requested all residents of Kibale East to keep the candle burning as they vote NRM in the LCI elections.
