Rice association of Uganda Petitions Parliament Over Rice Wars
The Rice association of Uganda (RAU) has asked Parliament not to approve the concession request by Rice miller’s council Uganda (RMCU)
In a petition to the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga by the RAU, the chair person of RAU Rachael Mbabazi informed Kadaga that the RMCU hoodwinked President Yoweri Museveni in a meeting that sat in April that Uganda has no rice farmers to supply and sustain their rice mills thus asking for three years tax levies or 100% free importation duty.
Mbabazi says these are opportunists who want to transact businesses without paying taxes to government.
She asked Kadaga to reject the concession if proposed to parliament saying it will frustrate the indigenous rice growing farmers in the country.
Meanwhile Kadaga has promised to discuss the matter both with ministry of Finance and President Museveni.
