Pre-season Build Up Match
Friday 7th September 2018
Nyamityobora FC 2-0 Bishop Stuart University (BSU) Mbarara.
Ten man Nyamityobora FC beat University side Bishop Stuart University (BSU) 2-0 at Ntare Grounds on Friday morning in Mbarara.
Nigerian Innocent Maduka and second half substitute Joseph Akandwanaho scored for the Banyakale to register their first win in the Ben Misaga era.
Maduka pounced on a calamitous Bishop Stuart University defensive mix-up to hit an empty net after quarter an hour when defender Tweheyo Kenneth and goalkeeper Rogers tried to clear the same ball and ended up colliding with each other.
The Nigerian could have doubled the host’s lead a minute later but he shot wide after another Moses Ndawula’s through pass played him one on one with the keeper.
The students made a good account of themselves in the closing stages of the first half only for goal keeper Franco Olinga to deny Masereka Wilber on a number of occasions.
However, the Nyamityobora custodian was sent off before half time for dissent but the home side held on to take a 1-0 advantage into the break.
Assistant coach Juma Ssekiziyivu and Technical Director Flores Antonio made nine changes at half time which saw Captain Henry Kamara replace Jakisa Jeri at right back while his assistant Alex Komakech came in for Peter Malouda.
Nyamityobora FC dominated much of the second half playing into BSU’s half and played with much intensity and could have doubled their lead with quarter an hour to play when cetre back Joseph Ottieno’s header was cleared off the line by Kakuru Moses.
The pressure finally paid off after another Charles Ssebutinde’s shot was saved by the goal keeper but the resulting corner was headed home by substitute Akandwanaho Joseph to deny the students a chance for a come back.
Bishop Stuart University’s best effort in the half came deep into stoppage time but Masereka Wilber’s close range effort forced a save from substitute goal keeper Jomi Hilary in what seemed to the the last kick of the match.
After their disappointing 1-1 draw against Kabale Sharp FC on Sunday, Nyamityobora FC responded with a convincing display to give hope to their fans as they prepare for life in Uganda’s top tier football.
The Banyakale missed the services of Head Coach James Odoch who is away to Agago District on compassionate leave after the loss of his brother, but in his absence, Assistant Coach Juma Ssekiyizivu and Technical Director Flores Antonio took charge of the team.
Bishop Stuart University out to prove a point.
After picking up their first point away from Mbarara in the University Football League with a 1-1 draw to Mbale based IUIU, BSU now look like a football team after a fine first half display against a team that won fourteen home games in the FUFA Big League last season.
The Bishops are taking on a numbers of Mbarara teams to prepare for the upcoming must win home match against Kampala International University on Sunday 16th September but a draw away from home to IUIU and a good display against Nyamityobora FC gives them hope to remain in the UFL.
Innocent Maduka perfect replacement for Yusuf Abato.
After striker Yusuf Abato swapped Nyamityobora FC for Kirinya Jinja SSS, the Banyakale were left wondering about who will help Kiiza David in the team’s hunt for goals, they responded by bringing in Patrick Gonahasa from prisons side Maroons FC, but after he suffered a knee injury in training, there were question marks on whether he will be the player to score goals for the team.
After impressing the coaches with his brilliant moves and skills in training, the Nigerian was out to prove himself in Friday’s match and hit the ground running with a typical striker finish fifteen minutes into the game.
The striker played for forty five minutes but he answered alot of questions in terms of his ability and eye for goal.
