NRM Wins Sheema North by-election

Naome Kibaaju, the candidate for the ruling National Resistance Movement has been declared the Sheema North MP-elect after defeating the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change candidate, Guma Nuwagaba in a two-horse race.

Sheema District Returning Officer, Deborah Asiimwe declared Kibaaju winner after she garnered 11,326 votes against Guma who polled 7,322.3

She replaces Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Elioda Tumwesigye, who resigned to contest for Sheema Municipality MP seat which he won.

The election was held amid tight security with some FDC supporters accusing security operatives of protecting NRM members who were allegedly bribing voters.
