Maintenance Works on Kinoni-Nyabitanga road in Kiruhura district Begin
The Uganda National Roads Authority(UNRA) Ibanda branch says they have at long last started working on Kinoni-Nyabitanga road in Kiruhura district.
UNRA Ibanda office is mandated to oversee road works in eight districts including Kiruhura, Ibanda, Kamwengye, Buhweju, Kyegeggwa among others .
Kinoni road which connects Rushere- Kinoni to Semmbabule district has not been worked on over time, despite calls by residents to have it rehabilitated or upgraded.
Last year, taxi drivers and boda boda cyclists plying on the Kinoni staged a demonstration expressing their frustration with the authorities failure to fix their road.
Speaking to Mbarara Sun News, UNRA manager Ibanda branch, Benedicto Bairegaka says they have now started loading murrum with the aim of covering the existing pothholes on the road, awaiting money from the central government to give money for the upgrade to tarmac.
Benedicto adds that the delay to work on the road is due to budget constraints, that have seen the government fail to make allocatin for the road in the budget.
He says there are other roads they are currently working on like Nyakabirizi- Buhweju, Kabwohe- Bwizibwera among others.
