KASITA Suspends Its Planned Demonstration Over Absence of Tenancy Policy

Kampala city Traders association has  suspended their planned demonstration over government’s failure to put in place a law to regulate the relationship between   landlords and tenants.

This after government agreed to table the Tenants and Landlord bill 2018 before parliament on the 10th May -2018 to enable it be enacted into law.

The bill discourages payment of rent in foreign currency unless agreed upon the two parties, prohibits increase in rent charges over 10% annually and also halts eviction of tenants without a 3 months’ notice.

Chairperson KACITA Everest Kayondo says that they have agreed to suspend the demonstration waiting for a law to be enacted

Kayondo says that the traders had also threatened to demonstrate over the UMEME bulk billing system and also the high income tax.

He says they have agreed to meet the relevant authorities to address the matter
