Kabale: Residents accuse health workers of late coming

Residents of Lyakaremera Town Council and Rubaya Sub County in Kabale district are accusing health workers at Rubaya health center IV of reporting late to work and close early, a thing they say hinders service delivery.

Milton Tusingwire, a resident of Lyakaremera Town Council says that the health workers reach the health facility as late as 10:00am and close by 1:00 pm. Tusingwire says that in most cases patients arrive at the health center and find no one to attend to them.

The Champion for Advocacy for Better Health in Rubaya Sub County Enid Andindire says that the district leaders should intervene and come up with strict measures to fight the vice in health centres, saying it’s affecting service delivery.

She says that they have complained for long through their community leaders but their complaints have not yielded any positive results.

The Ndorwa West County Health Sub district in charge William Kwesiga acknowledged the challenge, but blamed it to lack of staff houses at the facility saying that out of 30 health workers at the facility, only six stay within the facility.

He however says that they have put in place a number of ways of disciplining health workers who will report late to work and close early.

Accordibg to Public Service regulations, health workers are required to report at their workplaces at 8:00am and leave at 5pm.
