Health Monitoring Unit, a department under State House charged with the responsibility of improving health services has revealed that they are to verify afresh the professional documents and operational licenses for all medics across the country, as one way of sieving out quack medical practitioners.
The Unit which seeks to improve the health of the population by monitoring the management of essential medicines and service delivery says the number of unqualified personnel in the sector is growing, which risks the lives of Ugandans.
The Unit also has the mandate to monitor national health service delivery with intent to improve and address prevailing gaps.
This followed the arrest of two midwives at Buikwe and Bugembehospital, identified as Nakigozi Sarah and Nzukidwa Justine.
The two are said to have been working as midwives, although they did not have clear documents allowing them to work as such.
Now the head of this unit, Dr. Jackson Abusu Ojera says they are to move around the entire Country and liaise with responsibilities authorities to verify he papers for all medical practitioners
