The chairman LCV Isingiro district Jeremiah Birungi kamulari Omugogozi has given an ultimatum of 2 days to tenderer of matooke tax collector to vacate on the road where they have stage road block on else to resume the struggle.
In the letter seen by our reporter dated 21st march this year, the chairman petitioned public procurement disposal and public asset authority (PPDA) over illegal collection of tax on Matooke and other cereals along various roads in the district.
Kamurali wants the collections to only be restricted in the gazetted markets.Early this year, President Museveni issued a directive barring tax collections on roducts along the highways.
Kamurari says the judgment was given by the PPDA dated 24th july this year directing the tenderer to stop collecting tax on the road but rather to use the markets available.
He adds that the road block is staged on the kyera load heading ti Birere sub-county, at kiddawalime bakery point along Mbarara Kabingo Isingiro road and in Endizi sub-county at Kabobo along Isingiro-Ntungamo road.
Kamurali says whatever they are doing is illegal and they have given them a period of two days if there is no action struggle still continues.
Early this year, the chairman together with locals protested against the tax collection but all were in vain and even left him with injuries on head and his car smashed.
The tax is collected by RENAD INVESTIMENT LTD from Matooke and other cereals approved by the Dothath Eswilu the chief administrative officer Isingiro, and have not yet responded to this matter.
